Reclaimed cobbles and local stone at Carrière Hazotte

At Hazotte, a stone can be used twice. Our family quarry in the Condroz, between Nandrin and Tinlot in Belgium, extracts and cuts local stone, and also recovers reclaimed cobbles, kerbs, walling stone and steps to give them a second life. A zero-waste quarry with a short supply chain.

What is reclaimed stone?

Reclaimed stone is stone that has already been used: cobbles from old roads, kerbs, wall copings or steps that are recovered, sorted and sold again. Weathered by time, it keeps its technical qualities. Our product sheets list reclaimed Blue Stone as frost-resistant.

Sizes vary from one batch to another. That is what gives a traditional laying pattern its charm, as with our sandstone, porphyry and Swedish granite cobbles.

Which reclaimed stones do we offer?

  • Reclaimed Blue Stone (Petit Granit): square cobbles, kerbs, wall copings, steps and thresholds, bollards, benches, planters.
  • Reclaimed porphyry from the Lessines and Quenast area: rectangular, square and mosaic cobbles, sawn cobbles, countryside kerbs.
  • Reclaimed Belgian sandstone: cobbles, flagstones, sawn cobbles, countryside kerbs.
  • Reclaimed Swedish granite, often recovered in northern Flanders and the Netherlands: rectangular and mosaic setts, sawn setts.

Each product sheet gives the origin, appearance, available thicknesses and, for most, the technical characteristics.

Why choose reclaimed and local stone?

  • Circular economy: reclaimed stone has already been quarried and cut. Reusing it avoids new extraction and gives salvaged building materials a new life.
  • Short supply chain: our new stone comes from the Condroz soil. We aim for 100% local and are certified by the “Pierre Locale” label.
  • Low carbon footprint: one of our commitments, thanks to the short supply chain and reuse.
  • Visible heritage: weathered stone gives an authentic character to a driveway, terrace, facade or road.

Frequently asked questions

Is reclaimed stone as strong as new stone?

It keeps the qualities of the original rock. Our product sheets give, product by product, its resistance to frost, compression and wear.

Are all reclaimed stones the same size?

No. Batches vary in size, which suits a traditional laying pattern. The available thicknesses are shown on each product sheet.

Do you also offer new stone?

Yes. We quarry and cut new stone from the Condroz, including sandstone, and also offer new Blue Stone cobbles.
