Designation:
Condroz Sandstone, hard sandstone, Condroz psammite, Meuse sandstone, Famennian sandstone.
Origin:
Belgium, Liège and Namur Provinces: Amblève, Bocq, Hoyoux, Ourthe, and Samson valleys.
Description:
Slightly micaceous, fine-grained argillaceous sandstone, of Upper Famennian stratigraphic age (Upper Devonian, Primary).
Appearance:
Sandstone deposits come in an extremely varied range, with brighter hues (yellow, green, red, rusty brown) or more muted ones (from grey-green to grey-blue, wine-red, ochre, beige). The stone patinates to rusty brown when rich in iron, and to grey-blue or greenish tones when rich in feldspars. While the visible face of the rubble stone will always be cleaved (natural), some sides may have a sawn surface.
Hues may vary depending on the quarrying of the deposit.
Applications:
Sandstones are admirably suited for all types of rubble stone, steps, wall coping, corners, mould heads, and facing stone, for both exterior and interior use. Cleaved on the surface, the rubble stone will then be rectified to give it its final finish: rough, re-cut, re-trimmed, or squared. Naturally non-slip, sandstone is also recommended for ground landscaping: paving, slabs, flagstones, and borders.
Tolerance applicable from the limits of the nominal dimension ranges (min. and max.): 1cm
