Description:
Compact crinoidal limestone with a grey-blue hue.
Appearance:
Whether split or weathered, the stone displays color variations depending on the size of crinoid remains and the abundance of binding material. The stone contains white veins and fossils. The fossils give fresh fractures sparkling facets in the light. Crinoids, corals, and shells appear light against a dark background varying, depending on the finish, from light gray to black through a bluish range. The stone lightens when exposed to weathering, through superficial leaching of intercalated carbon.
